Profiled jib
Suitable for manual handling of all materials
Elephant designs and builds versatile and simple jib cranes for single emplacements or large spaces, for moving loads and lifting heavy materials.
The jib cranes are a cost-effective solution, simple and practical, normally used to service single work stations. In order to simplify the work between the various phases of processing, it is possible furthermore to use a bridge crane to connect work stations and move part-completed items or finished products easily.
The particular aspect of these units is the possibility of adapting themselves to restricted work areas with limited space where other units would not be able to fit. Furthermore, while guaranteeing multiple configurations, these can also be installed in structures with low ceilings, with particular obstacles or for specific requirements.
The jib crane is mainly made up of a rotating arm on a bolt fixed to a steel column or, using appropriate fixings, to a cement pillar or beam at the production site.
Rotation of the arm is normally of 270°, but it can be increased up to 300°. However, where necessary, a version of crane with a rotation of 360° is available.
The arm’s rotation is fluid and free running as the crane pin is mounted on a ball bearing. Furthermore, it is possible to limit the rotation using end stop brackets.
The jib crane is available with rotation of the arm in both manual and motorized versions, with the exception of the ducted section version which is only manual. In the motorized version, the crane is equipped with a reduction gear box, and possibly an inverter for improving control over the start and stop rotation phases.
All jib cranes are painted with anti-rust treatment and two coats of enamel. External installations are subject of a special treatment of “marine grade painting” to increase protection from the corrosive action of atmospheric agents.
Also, better to protect the structure outdoors, a canopy has been included for covering the electric hoist in its resting state.
All units manufactured by Elephant are built in compliance with European directives and are accompanied by declarations of conformity, and EC marking. In effect, they conform with:
Jib cranes have various distinctive characteristics which can modify their configuration; we can mainly distinguish them by the type of base or fixing, and by type of arm.
Pillar crane
Wall mounted jib crane
Mobile jib crane with pallet-style base
Ducted section arm
Articulated arm
Extendable arm
Beam arm with tie rod
Cantilevered beam arm
Arm with 360° rotation
Pillar jib crane implies the design and supply both of the column and the arm.
The type of fixing to the flooring represents one of the central aspects during the design and installation phases of the column. Indeed, there are two main systems of fixing:
For the first solution, a pit must be dug for the reinforced concrete to be poured into and act as a support for the column; the second on the other hand, requires no modifications to the flooring other than holes being drilled for affixing the increased size column base plate with chemical fixings.
It is possible to design special configurations of pillar crane depending on the lifting requirements. Amongst our production can be included:
When a jib crane is required without a column, wall mounted jib cranes are designed.
This type of crane is directly fixed to a reinforced concrete pillar which might already be present or can be installed using two methods:
It is possible to design special configurations of wall mounted jib crane depending on the lifting requirements. Amongst our production can be included:
An alternative to the two solutions previously described, is the mobile jib crane with a pallet-style base, recommended for when it is not possible to anchor it to the floor and/or there is a requirement to move the crane to different work stations.
These portable jib crane are available with two types of base: the most common requires the filling of a cube with concrete, while the alternative is with steel ballast. This last solution is notably more compact, but at the same time costlier than the previous one.
With the crane having a pallet-style base, an external weight is made to which the jib crane is anchored which, due to its particular characteristics, is more obtrusive and with a usually limited radius of action.
We suggest this solution to answer for special requirements, amongst which:
The simplest, most economical and lightest model of crane is with the ducted section jib, where the hoist trolley runs inside the profile, allowing for very fluid and precise movements of any load.
In this version, the running of the trolley and of the crane may only be manual and with a maximum load of 1000 kg. The channel is always assembled with tie rods.

The opposite version is the cantilever crane with tie rod, where the trolley runs clinging to the beam and can be run electrically or manually.
The use of a beam is born of the need to increase the capacity (which in the standard version arrives at 2000 kg) and allows for the possible installation of a motorized trolley.
The cantilever crane can be supported with tie rods or cantilevered. The cantilever crane is suitable for increasing the drop of the hook, that is the maximum distance between the hook and the floor, and to optimize the height available.
By request, the arm may be motorized, with rotation even assisted by an inverter. The gear box for this rotation can be positioned either in the upper part, or in the lower part of the arm rotation stud.
GO TO THE BEAM CRANE GO TO CANTILEVER CRANE
The knuckle jib crane is ideal for moving loads in the presence of obstacles in the work area. Jib crane with articulated arm is made up of two elements: the first arm is fixed to the column, while the second is hinged at the end of the first.
By avoiding obstacles, pillars, machinery and interferences of various types, this type of arm allows for reaching work areas which would not have been possible with the classic jib crane.
The articulated arm is made up of two elements in which both arms rotate around studs on ball bearings and make it possible to install the hoist in such a manner that it runs on the second beam, or is positioned at the end of the second arm (“fixed point”).
By request, it is possible to mount a pneumatic brake on the first arm in order to block it into the required position and then only to rotate the second arm. Eventually, it is possible also to fix a second frame on the second arm.
Still on the basis of a request, it is possible to have the first arm motorized with assisted rotation.
GO TO THE PRODUCT
For covering all the requirements of a work area, it is possible to request special jib cranes with a rotation of 360°.
Such a construction is only realisable following the installation of a steel column, allowing for a continuous rotation. The rotation of the arm could be manual, with a cantilevered beam arm, or electrical with a manual or electric trolley.
This second configuration allows movement of large loads over the whole radius of action of the jib; furthermore, it allows for a greater capacity, going up to 50000 kg, as against the 2000 kg with the manually rotated crane.
For particular requirements, the 360° rotating jib crane with electric rotation can be made to have a limited radius of action.
GO TO THE CRANE WITH ELECTRIC ROTATION GO TO THE CRANE WITH MANUAL ROTATION
This version is part of, similar to cranes with articulated arms, the family of cranes suitable for special tasks. The jib crane with the extendable arm also has two arms, one below the other, which resolves problems deriving from obstacles or restricted areas in the work station.
The crane with an extendable arm, on a column or wall mounted, presents different solutions: With manual or electric transfer of the second arm; with electric or manual hoist trolley; with manual or motorized rotation.
GO TO THE PRODUCT
All lifting systems supplied by Elephant are equipped with an electric chain hoist, and any under-hook accessories on request.
The hoist installable on the jib crane may be equipped with a manual or electric trolley, with the exception of the profile crane with which it is only manual.
A one or two lifting speed chain hoist is connected to the arm, with a movement down the arm which may be manual or electric depending on the request. The trolley with electric movement may also be equipped with single or double speed.
The hoists may be integrated with an inverter device for a smoother movement and a reduction in the load’s oscillations.
The chain bag can be supplied in plastic, fabric or steel.
Special orders for hoists include a frame with reduced dimensions to optimise the hook movement.
